There are different types of air conditioners; window mounted air conditioner, through the wall air conditioner, portable air conditioner, heat pumps, and mini-split or multi-split air conditioners.
The majority of room air conditioners are window mounted air conditioners. They are mounted on the window exposing half of it outside while the other half inside, and plexiglass is used to cover the open space between the window and the air conditioner. This type of air conditioner is cleverly made to fit standard window frames, aside from its small size and easy installation, it condenses the water that all air conditioners produces and drips from the unit to a direction if a tube is connected.
Portable room air conditioners are a perfect solution for closed rooms. Because they are on wheels, they can be moved from one room to another without occupying a large space. Portable air conditioners take the humidity in the room and turns it into cool air.
Through the wall air conditioners are built to fit in the wall and when they are properly installed they can be sealed permanently so less cool air leaks back outside which will save you money in the short and long run. This type of air conditioner is designed to replace existing through the wall air conditioners with the improvement in size and efficiency.
Mini-split or multi-split and heat pumps air conditioner are split systems. There are two components; an indoor unit and a outdoor compressor, therefore they are much quieter compared to other type of air conditioners. The indoor unit can be mounted on the wall, ceiling or on the floor. Because they do not require ductwork, they are ideal for new additions to homes.
The strength of an air conditioner is determined by its “BTU” (British thermal unit), please refer to the following table to select the strength of air conditioner required to cool down a room.
